TropicalGyal - A Celebration of Life, Culture & Creativity
30's feels like the clock just started. Such a pivotal age, back in the day women were considered high risk having children at 35, but in this generation 35 feels like a starting point to adulthood , vast difference from 21. I’ve developed an urge to fight for my desires - my body, my career , my family . I AM wiser, stronger and more confident. 40's for me feels like a pivotal moment, feels like it’s time to put in place everything I’ve been working towards, and building a foundation for what’s to come. Time to make some moves - A season of manifested blessings
Bottom line: It feels like time to bury my head down in this race and start sprinting, not knowing where the finish line is, but having faith and trusting God will tell me when I get there.
The manifestation of TropicalGyal.
The other day I was having a conversation with a friend about how sheltered our teenage sons are. How at their age we had way more responsibilities, freedom and had already experienced so much of life's harsh realities in Belize, from machete fights, to gunshots. She's convinced we have PTSD. We always have our guard up and ready for whatever at all times probably like most people that grew up in the Caribbean and Central America . Living in Chicago a city with a high crime rate my goal is to protect my son and also to prepare him for this cold world.
As young parents, he's seen my struggles and seen me maneuver through life, he's been right there with us watching his parents trials, tribulations, and triumphs. We've taught him first hand how to overcome obstacles. I can say at this point with confidence that he's also an overcomer, I'm sure whatever obstacle/situation comes his way, he'll overcome it, and come out on top minus the PTSD, unlike us... LOL.
My mother use to say " you have fi feel fi laan" ( you have to experience something to know) but I also believe example is also a good teacher in life.
Every since the election last year I’ve been intrigue by the voting influences of women.
Why do black women and white women vote differently ? With the new feminist movement on the rise why did so many white woman vote for Roy Moore and Donald Trump? What made Caucasian women chose Trump over Hilary? What are their values and main voting influence that causes them to vote in huge numbers for Trump and Roy Moore? And why do they vote so different from Black women? Is it because black women represent the head of the household for a vast majority that they don’t particularly vote the same as black men? Why do white women vote mostly the same as white men?
Are white women wasting there vote by voting the same as white men? Since women were given the right to vote , what has influenced our vote? Does Hispanic women also vote the same as Hispanic men? We know the gender of the candidate does not influence majority of the vote, but for white women, is race and religion the dominant factors?
